located within the historic train station building (circa 1905), adjacent to the Fossil Centre, visit the Sydney Mines Heritage Museum to learn about the town’s history through displays containing artifacts donated by the local community. From coal miners’ tools that shares our coal mining era and significance to the jersey of legendary local athlete, Johnny Miles, there’s something to interest visitors of all ages!  focuses on the history and heritage of the town of Sydney Mines.

Next door, prepare to unearth a prehistoric world when you visit Cape Breton Fossil Centre! Housing Canada’s most extensive Carboniferous Plant Fossil display, this is your chance to connect with 300 million years of Earth’s history as you wander through fascinating exhibits showcasing over 800 fossils. Get hands-on in our dedicated labs, or join a daily tour led by our passionate guides where you can listen to stories that have been reveal through the fossils on display. You can even go on a self-led fossil hike to explore the coastline to find your own hidden treasure.
