Overview

The Bicentennial Botanical Gardens, located on the grounds of the Agricultural Campus of Dalhousie University in the Truro area, is a series of gardens covering 60 hectares with an extensive plant collection that provides both a living laboratory for the Landscape Horticulture program as well as a popular attraction in Bible Hill. Visitors to the botanical gardens will be surrounded by trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and farm crops, displayed and interpreted with both functional and naturalistic uses.

Themed areas, such as the Rock Garden and Herb Garden, feature courtyards, walls, and natural stone. The Rock Garden, covering one-half acre of land, is situated on a south facing slope, with a rock face, two dry streams, a gravel scree bed, and a damp area, providing a wide variety of habitats for plants including a collection of dwarf conifers and alpine and saxatile plants.

Along with the themed gardens, visitors to the garden can stroll the 2.1 km walking trail, past various garden beds.

The botanical garden is a popular venue and natural backdrop for special events. Please contact the gardens’ staff for information regarding holding events (group catering available), including wedding and special event photoshoots. events as well as to book it for wedding photoshoots.
