Discover the night skies in Nova Scotia
Why wish upon one star when you can wish upon thousands of them?
Discover the night skies in Nova Scotia as they’re meant to be seen: pure, clear of smog, and brimming with stars! The skies come alive in Nova Scotia, and there are many places across our province to discover pure starlight at its twinkling, beaming best.
Part of Southwest Nova Scotia has been designated as the first Starlight Tourism Destination in North America by the UNESCO-affiliated International Starlight Federation. Its name - Acadian Skies and Mi’kmaq Lands – encompasses the rich heritage and connection these two cultures have with the night sky and its starlight.
For instance, the French explorer Samuel de Champlain – who arrived in Acadie in 1604 – navigated a long voyage across the Atlantic using the stars as his guide. Many Mi’kmaq First Nation creation legends are also found in the stories of stars and constellations. No matter your connection to the stars, a visit to Nova Scotia is a must for anyone who’s ever wanted to get lost staring into the secrets of the Milky Way.
Discover and savour one of these starlight encounters in Nova Scotia, whether in the Acadian Skies and Mi’kmaq Lands region, or another part of our province.
