East Coast Outfitters (ECO) has been Halifax’s premier paddling spot since 2001. Locally owned and operated, ECO specializes in sea kayak, canoe, and stand-up paddle board (SUP) tours, lessons, and equipment rentals. ECO’s guides are some of the most highly trained and qualified paddlers in the region. They must complete an 8 month guide training course that prepares them with all the knowledge necessary to make your trip a memorable one.
After booking with us and receiving your pre-trip information, you will make your way to Lower Prospect. Lower Prospect is a small fishing village located near Halifax, Nova Scotia. About 200 people live here, in homes built around a protected harbour at the end of a peninsula which juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. Weather still matters in Lower Prospect. Everyone waves.
After being greeted by our staff and filling out waivers, you will be shown into the boathouse to meet your guide and get ready for the tour. Your safety is our main priority, so our guides are very thorough in ensuing that you are prepared for your trip with a short yet thorough safety briefing and paddle talk. Then, your tour will leave from our one-of-a-kind floating docks into our sheltered cove on the Lower Prospect peninsula, and explore incredible bays, inlets, islands and shorelines such as Cub Basin, Rogues Roost, Betty’s Island, or the Terence Bay Wilderness Protected Area. Half way through your trip you will stop on one of the many pristine islands to stretch your legs, have a snack and relax. For the remained of your trip you will continue to learn about local flora and fauna, local history of the area and our guides love answering all your questions that we know you will have. This experience is something we want you to remember for a lifetime
Some add-on options for after the trip: A Lobster Feast on the wharf at the end of your trip for a truly unforgettable experience. (Includes: Lobster per person, mussels, potato salad, cheese, crackers and sides depending on what vegetables are in season at the time) One of our local lobster fishermen will prepare and cook a fantastic seaside meal for you and will also talk about the local lobster fishing industry.
