Description

The West Hants Historical Society collects and preserves artifacts and historical information related to Hants County, Nova Scotia. We display the cultural history of one of Nova Scotia's oldest communities; household, industrial and shipping technologies of a bygone era. We also hold an extensive library and archives of Nova Scotia and Hants County, as well as providing genealogies of many local families.

In early 1991 the old Methodist church on King Street in Windsor was acquired by the WHHS. The society now owns over 1,000 artifacts.

In the summer months (mid June to September) we are open to the public Tuesday-Saturday 9-5. For the rest of the year we are open Wednesday's 10-3 or by appointment. However we do close between mid-December until March.

Our Museum charges no entrance fee, but we gratefully accept donations at the door.

  • ·         Entrance fee by donation
  • ·         Parking available (Limited)
  • ·         Wheelchair accessible
  • ·         Bus tours welcome (please call in advance to arrange)
  • ·         Educational tours available (please call in advance to arrange)

The Society offers a genealogy research room. Our library contains a large variety of resources including family histories, local newspapers, graveyard headstone inscriptions, school registrars, community histories... maps, photographs, etc.

Our genealogy room's location and hours of operation are exactly the same as our museum. Operating seasonally and closed during the winter.

$20.00 per hour afterwards

For research requests sent to the Society, there is an initial 15-minute FREE search to see if we have any references pertaining to the surname in question.

*Applicable photocopying charges will also be charged.
