July 1 - August 31

The Bear River Heritage Museum is located on the main street of the Village of Bear River, in the old school building at 1913 Clementsvale Road (Oakdene Centre). It is in the Fundy Shore and Annapolis Valley Region. The picturesque village is noted for its old building on stilts, and the steep riverside hills which have persuaded visitors in the past to call it “The Switzerland of Nova Scotia”.

Bear River was a great shipbuilding town in the 19th century and home to the Mi’kmaq thousands of years before the Europeans settled here.

The museum features social, economic, rural and Mi’kmaq history with artifacts and displays, as well as photo archives of school and shipbuilding. Rotating exhibitions throughout the year explore themes such as military life, nautical construction and guiding.
