With the evolution of giant pumpkins came the creation of the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, and Windsor was one of the first sites to compete. Globally, there are over 90 official weigh-off sites.
For almost three decades, pumpkin growers across Atlantic Canada, and beyond, have brought their giant gourds to Windsor to compete in the annual Pumpkin Weigh-off. This years Atlantic winner weighed in at a hefty 1727 pounds. The world's first pumpkin to break 2 tonne, weighed-in at a whopping 2009 pounds at the Topsfield Fair in Massachusetts. This giantic gourd can trace its genealogy back to Howard Dill of Windsor, NS, who started the international craze of giant pumpkin growing.
