The St. Peter’s Village on the Canal Association hosts the 18th Annual Festival of Trees. The festival boasts a dazzling display of decorated Christmas trees, showcasing the talent and enterprise of St. Peter's and surrounding area and is poised to entertain once again in 2013.

The weekend is filled with a variety of activities beginning on Saturday at 9am with homemade pancakes and pictures with Santa. During the two day event there will be crafts for children, a “new to you” ornament exchange, silent auction, and voting for your favourite tree. The festival will offer a selection of lunch items for purchase throughout Saturday and Sunday. Santa’s Corner invites children to write a letter to Santa, make crafts, participate in a colouring contest, and more.

Immediately following the official Tree Lighting ceremony at 6pm on Saturday evening, Santa’s elves will treat the audience with a reading of the beloved classic, “The Night Before Christmas”.

The evening continues with a concert of local musicians and dancers, ending with hot chocolate, cider and Christmas treats for all to enjoy.

There are six categories to enter a tree into: Commercial/Retail, Youth Group, Organization, Children 10 years and under, Children 11 years and older, and Individual Adult (for all other entries). The entry fee is a non-perishable food item for the food bank and a decoration from the tree or item of choice donated to the silent auction. The festival usually has between 40 and 50 trees entered including the annual food bank tree. More than 500 people voted for their favourite tree in 2011.

This event would not be possible without the support of the St. Peter’s Lion’s Club, Home Hardware, Foodland Village Grocery and Heritage Canada.
