Lectori Salutem,
Since 2005 I try to give photos an Identity. It concerns photos made between 1939 and 1946 of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders - SD&G, and the Highland Light Infantry of Canada - HLI. They were made in Canada, England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. I started with one picture of my own with 155 SD&G-Highlanders. Two of them were billeted at our house in Hilversum, the Netherlands. Their names (Lt. Gavin & Cpl. Armstrong) were the start a search for the remaining 153 "Glens". Today there are found 122 names.
Over the past years I received many war pictures from Canadians who are Veterans or family of Veterans. The photo collection is now about 600. First I try to restore damaged pictures and the next step is to find the name and exact location of the picture, the date and all the names of the Glens in the picture. In this way it is possible to give a photo an Identity. Let's say: I hope to make the photo to be part of the History of Canada, which is of major importance for Canadians of today, as well as for future generations, including Canadian archives and those in Europe.
I'm searching for SD&G-Highlander Veteran Murphy (and / or his family: he was called: "The Wild Man from Cape Breton". I'm searching for his first name(s) and his reg.number. Problem is that there were enlisted eight Glens with the name Murphy, of which two came from Nova Scotia. Their number has a prefix "F". However, it is possible that Murphy is moved from Nova Scotia to Ontario before 1944 and that's why I will show you all the names of the Murphy's", according the history of the SD&G-Highlanders:
D.J. Murphy F58120 from Nova Scotia;
James Murphy C53301 from Ontario;
Joseph Roy Murphy C53017 from Ontario;
Lester Murphy F10381 from Nova Scotia - was wounded once;
Lorne V.G. Murphy C35001 from Ontario;
P.J. Murphy C53879 from Ontario;
T.R. Roy Murphy C54271 from Ontario, and
W.E. Murphy C53517 from Ontario.
Thank you for your attention.
Kind Regards,
