Flemming's of Ketch Harbour
Posted by: Joe Flemming
Region: Halifax Metro
My name is Joe Flemming, and I've been working away at my family tree for years. After entering about 1500 names, I've finally gone about as far back as I can without a breakthrough or huge lead. My Grandfather (several greats) John Flemming/Fleming shows on the NS Tax Roll as being on the Sambro Island Light in 1791 and 1792. He then shows up in Sambro itself in 1793. From this point he is married and having children in Ketch Harbour. I won't get into the details other than that his wife is Susannah, and his sons are John and Richard, born in 1794 and 96 respectively. Baptised at St Pauls. The question is, what are John Flemming's roots? How and when did he come here?

There are other Flemming family roots in Truro, Musquodoboit, Eastern Shore, even Lunenburg. But none of their tree's seem to involve this John Flemming. His death cert indicates he is from Clonmel, Tipperary Cty Ireland. Born in 1762. He either came as a boy with one of these other families, or he came alone as a young man later on. The question is, how can I find out. Where do I look next. I'd really like to find this one missing puzzle before taking a trip to Ireland.
