McKay

Looking for info on Allan McKay. His death record in 1866 says he was born 1811 in Cape Breton and was illegitimate. I wonder if maybe the informant, his brother-in-law, just answered the father question with "Unknown," and it was translated to "illegitimate." At any rate, is there a way to trace a birth that early in Cape Breton? He moved to the Keppoch in Antigonish, marrying Catherine McInnes in 1835. "Drummer on Foot" says he came from the Isle of Mull. Anyone know of this family? The family was Roman Catholic, so that rules out some of the immigrants. Thanks!
