Bienvenue! Welcome! to Flora's, located in the heart of the Acadian region on western Cape Breton Island. The internationally renowned Chéticamp traditional hooked rugs are our speciality along with Acadian hospitality.
Jun-Oct. Daily, 9:00am-6:00pm.
Mrs. Flora Boudreau, the astute foundress of Flora's in Point Cross, Chéticamp, began her business in 1958 with her husband Albert. The boutique dealing with rugs and groceries was an immediate success. Soon, the grocery aspect was abandoned and Marie-Flora was kept busy during the winter, even though the boutique was open for the summer only. Flora and her neighbour, Antoinette Lefort, couldn't keep pace with the orders so they had to hire several women to assist them.
Through expansions and renovations, Flora's has maintained quality service and merchandise in the Acadian tradition. When Marie-Flora became widowed and the business became too demanding, her daughter Marie and her husband René Lefort were asked to move home from Montreal to manage the boutique and continue the business.
Flora's has over 100 artisans working for them and due to the diligence, artistic nuance and the dedication of Marie-Flora to her craft, the Provincial Tourist Association, in 1982, chose Flora's Boutique as being the best one in Cape Breton. The tradition of excellence has been passed to a new generation of artisans at Flora's, based on her work ethic and pride of place and culture. Flora has truly been a gifted entrepreneur with a visionary impact on the Chéticamp rug-hooking tradition.
Your congenial scooper, Lisa Aucoin, at Flora's Ice Cream Parlor adjacent to the Shop will tantalize your palate with frozen goodies sure to appeal to the child in you. Stacked sundaes with a profusion of rich deep chocolate, sinful butterscotch, mouth-watering strawberry or tangy pineapple await your taste buds. An array of soft ice cream or dipped cones may please your palate on a hot summer day.
We offer chocolate and butterscotch dips just to entice you into submission. No one is safe from the contagious smiles and laughter of Lisa when she starts to create your treat. If you can handle the decadence of a banana split with oceans of sauce, cream and memories then you have reached ice cream heaven here at Flora's. Flurries can be created from Crispy Crunch, Oreo cookies, Smarties, Skor, strawberries, chocolate chip cookies, banana treats or pineapple.
Forget the diet and indulge in a summer's treat. If you wish an oatcake with a cup of coffee then you can be satisfied at this stop. Delicious blueberry muffins abound as well as the perennial favourite of the kids, hot dogs. On your travels on the Cabot Trail stop in for a well-deserved treat at Flora's Ice Cream Parlor, at Point Cross, the gateway to Chéticamp.
