Founded in 1972, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia makes its home in Windsor, at the gateway to the scenic Annapolis Valley. The company has won international acclaim for its unique staged adaptations of children's literature which feature striking puppets, innovative scenic effects, and evocative original music.
Mermaid performs for more than 200,000 spectators annually, earning recognition as one of North America's most respected purveyors of family entertainment. As informal cultural ambassadors for Nova Scotia and for Canada, Mermaid has visited twelve countries and currently offers performances in six languages.
Closer to home, Mermaid's extensive studios, administrative headquarters and performance venue are open to the public during weekday business hours. Visitors are invited to enjoy colourful displays of puppets and props representing close to four decades of achievement. The opportunity to tour the production workshops and meet with the company's creative teams can be arranged.
Mermaid also owns and operates the 400-seat facility known as MIPAC (Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre), where the company presents its own flagship productions as well as regularly hosts a series of diverse music and theatre offerings.
