Located in Markland near Caribou in the Eastern Shore region, visitors will find the site of the Icelandic settlement (1875–1882). Historical plaques mark the foundations of many original homesteads; walking trails and interpretive signage commemorate this little-known Icelandic community. A memorial cairn has been constructed with rocks gathered from the homestead foundations and topped with a rock shipped from Iceland. Guided tours by appointment are available. Please note that there are no services on site. Bus tours are welcome.
