Rare example of a formal Victorian public garden in the heart of a modern city; many floral displays, statues, fountains. 17-acre park, enclosed by a wrought-iron fence with a magnificent set of ornamental gates. In 1874 the city of Halifax assumed responsibility for the original garden (N.S. Horticultural Society, 1836) and a civic garden (1867); the gardens were brought together by the present design in 1875. Sun pm band concerts, mid-Jun to mid-Sep.
