The Bear River Heritage Museum resides in a historic riverside building once used as a village theatre on the waterfront of the village of Bear River in the Fundy Shore and Annapolis Valley region. The picturesque village is noted for its old buildings on stilts, and the steep riverside hills which have persuaded some to call it “The Switzerland of Nova Scotia”.

Bear River was a great shipbuilding town in the 19th century and home to the Mi’kmaq thousands of years before the Europeans.

The museum features social, economic, rural and Mi’kmaq history with artifacts and displays, as well as photo archives of school, shipbuilding, military and lumberjack life.
