Dine 18th century style at the Beggar's Banquet in Louisbourg.

The Beggar’s Banquet, based on the historical tradition of holding a secret banquet for the poor, is unlike any other dining experience in Nova Scotia. In a setting reminiscent of an 18th century working-class tavern, you are invited to attend wearing reproduction period costumes (provided by the establishment). While you dine, join hostesses Sabine and Angélique and their staff in storytelling, dance and traditional French and English ballads and tunes.

Although the meal and traditional setting are representative of what beggars had to endure in 1745, you are assured a feast fit for a king. You may even be provided the opportunity to master the technique of cracking open a lobster or crab legs! Choose from market lobster, snow crab, halibut or roasted half chicken, each served with homemade potato salad and coleslaw, vegetable garnishes, freshly baked rolls and piping hot tea and coffee. Top it all off with delicious ginger cake with whipped cream.

Immerse yourself in the area’s history and culture and learn of the French colonial settlement’s fisheries and trade industries, as well as its society and culture. The Beggar’s Banquet is the perfect complement to a visit at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.

Dinner is served at 6 pm nightly.
