Useful travel information

Passports

International visitors require a valid passport to enter Canada. Citizens of most European countries do NOT require a visa, but visit Citizenship and Immigration Canada to be sure.

Mail, phone, and Internet

Internet access, postal services and telephones are all very accessible in Nova Scotia, and mobile phones are supported by both CDMA and GSM systems. Contact your mobile service provider for roaming information and to determine if your phone is compatible.

Weather

Nova Scotia enjoys a climate moderated by the sea, with pleasantly warm summer temperatures of 20 - 25 degrees Celsius, and occasional, light summer rains. Visit The Weather Network site to check curent conditions.

Time zones

Nova Scotia is in the Atlantic Standard time zone, which is four hours behind London and five hours behind Paris.

Currency

Nova Scotia uses the Canadian dollar. Currency includes $1 and $2 coins, and $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills. Currency exchange is available at the airport, many hotels and at any financial institution.

Customs

All visitors to Canada will pass through a customs inspection. Please contact your nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate for full information on items you can and cannot carry with you into the country.

Measurement and voltage

Canada formally adopted the metric system in 1970. With an electrical system of 110 volts, you will require a universal adaptor to operate overseas electrical appliances.

The big camping experience last winter was spending a night in a yurt at kejimkujik national park. The only problem was finding an open weekend to book one of the two Yurts at the park. With time running out, we booked a single overnight in late March at the Eel Weir Yurt.
