The Cumberland County Genealogical Society (CCGS) was established to provide a forum for those interested in genealogy to share information and to assist in the identification and cataloging of resource material so that it can be readily available to everyone for both research and education.
Objectives of the CCGS are to collect and preserve genealogical material; promote the study of genealogical and family history in Cumberland County; further ethical practices, scientific and effective techniques of genealogical research; and, to publish and distribute genealogical material to help in the education and promotion of interest in genealogy.
Publications: Genealogy Resource Directory for Cumberland County, NS; 1905 Vital Statistics from Amherst Daily News; 1906 Vital Statistics from Amherst Daily News; Will Book A CD; Railroading in Westchester, NS; Red Cross Cookbook - Oxford, NS 1917; Memories of Hansford, NS; Down Memory Lane DVDs; CCGS Newsletter Cumberland Roots, for members published four times a year; other projects coming soon. Monthly meetings at 7:00 pm every third Tuesday of the month (except July & August), at various locations within Cumberland County. Location notification will be posted online prior to meeting. Open to the general public.

Annual Membership is $15 for individuals, $20 for family in same household, and is open to anyone interested in joining. Membership entitles member to free admission at the Cumberland County Genealogy Centre, reduced pricing on CCGS publications, along with the quarterly newsletter Cumberland Roots.

Ernest Coates fonds, family files, publications, genealogies, local histories, charts, family bibles, scrapbooks, church registers, cemetery records, school registers (some restriction), school and university yearbooks, census records, directories, poll tax assessment records, deeds, maps, photographs, wills, local newspapers, obituaries, vital statistics and township records for Cumberland County.

Research Fees
First ½ hour is free, additional time is $10 per hour.
