The Reference Department at the Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library collects a wide range of local history and genealogical resources related to Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada.

Unique Dartmouth resources are available at the Alderney Gate Public Library.

Collects primary and secondary resources about Nova Scotia.

Resources include "how to" research guides, obituary indexes, Halifax newspapers, surname dictionaries, primary source indexes, record transcriptions, community and county histories, Books of Remembrance, published family histories, city directories, maps and atlases, high school yearbooks, genealogical newsletters, and government documents, Online access to Nova Scotia vital statistics, census records, and Ancestry.com Library Edition.

268 shelves of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality local history/genealogy resources; 16 filing cabinets of local newspaper clippings, brochures, newsletters, etc.; 600 reels of national and local newspapers on microfilm; 2 cases of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality maps; 1 spinner of 44 history and genealogy periodicals

Research Fees
Reference staff are available for research assistance and to recommend other genealogical research centres within the province.

Duplication Fees
Photocopy: $0.25 per page

Computer printout: $0.10 per page

Mail/email inquiries: $5 for up to 10 pages of photocopies, including postage. Additional photocopies are charged $0.25 a page.
