Nova Scotia has a wealth of provincial parks. Some are small picnic areas, and others are large parks with a variety of facilities. Martinique Beach Provincial Park situated in East Petpeswick, 11 km /7 mi south of Musquodoboit Harbour in the Eastern Shore region. (From Halifax take either Highway 107 or 207 to Musquodoboit Harbour and turn right onto East Petpeswick Road.) Visitors can enjoy a 5-km crescent white-sand beach, with an open and wooded picnic area behind dunes. The beach is supervised during the months of July and August; change houses are available. Park features include beachcombing, boardwalks and hard-surfaced paths. Martinique is a protected area for the piping plover, as well as a wildlife refuge for migratory waterfowl.
